Brent and Kim Walton of QN4U are the 2007 KCBS California State BBQ Champions and the California Team of the Year for the past three years. Brent is the newly elected President of the California BBQ Association and learned to shake hands and kiss babies from the best of you.  After all the Southern Hospitality Brent and Kim received at various competitions this year, they decided to challenge all serious competition BBQ teams from across the country to come to sunny California this spring to compete in the 2008 Kingsford Master Cut State BBQ Championships.

The 4th annual contest is a well oiled machine under the direction of contest organizer Don Bean and Sharon Blakely of Save Mart Supermarkets. Tommy Castro Blues Band performs Saturday after the awards ceremony – and your registration includes a unique opportunity to visit Yosemite National Park with your hosts Brent and Kim and Save Mart Supermarkets.

Friday and Saturday, May 9th and 10th in Modesto, CA.

The MEET Blues Brews & BBQ Festival and the KCBS BBQ competition have attracted many of the top competition BBQ teams from across the west including the top California teams, the legendary Jerry King from Texas and Arizona’s State Champion Otis and the Bird. We invite you to join us in great KCBS competition, a People’s Choice Rib Contest and a tour of Yosemite National Park where we will BBQ in Yosemite Valley at the base of Half Dome and Yosemite Falls. We’ll be laugh’n and gawk’n at the sites – and I bet you will be talking about this adventure for years to come.  It’s snowing in Yosemite and the falls will be spectacular in May. Please join us.

The competition spaces are available beginning Friday morning at 8 AM and the Cooks Meeting, Hosted Dinner, Bar and music begin Friday evening at 6 PM. Vendor spaces are available for Friday Nights People’s Choice Rib Fest where you can partner with Save Mart Supermarkets to make some money for you and local nonprofit organizations. (Save Mart will provide the ribs and split the revenue with you!) 

The KCBS BBQ competition begins at noon on Saturday with the Chicken Turn-In at HIGH NOON, followed by Ribs at 12:30, Pork at 1:00 and Brisket at 1:30 PM. There will also be the Anything BUTT competition - gril some shrimp, bake a cake - do whatever your heart desires!

You’ll find that you have thousands of curious festival goers watching you do that voodoo that you do with BBQ! Dress up your booth and show who you are and we’ll award a new prize for the best looking booth this year – along with the cash and trophies for all the KCBS categories: Reserve and Grand Champion and top five places. This years Grand Champion not only receives a $3,000.00 cash prize, but an all expenses paid vacation to Yosemite National Park – and the Kingsford Master Cut KCBS California State Championship Belt!
